Camera: Canon Xl1 S

Overview of the XL1:
Featuring the Mini DV format, this 3 chip camera uses 1/3" chips with 250,000 effective pixels. The camera is equipped with a DV terminal that conforms to IEEE 1394 for digital transfer of video and sound. It comes standard with an Optical Image Stabilized 16X Zoom Lens which Canon says is the longest available lens for a DV camcorder. The camera records drop frame time code. The on-board microphone is a balanced-type with XLR connectors. Unlike the Sony VX-1000 , the XL-1 features interchangeable lenses like the earlier Canon L1/L2 Hi-8 camcorders. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $4700. Street prices are typically much less.

3X Wide-Angle Lens for Canon XL1
A super wide-angle lens that gives a range of 24-72mm (in 35mm film terms.)
This extra-wide angle 3x zoom lens provides 24 to 72 mm in 35mm equivalent focal length with high resolution exceeding 600 TV lines. It has an ND filter, manual focus and zoom ring.

Overview
This new XL wide-angle zoom lens provides the world's widest field-of-view on any DV camcorder and marks the second XL lens designed specifically to fit the XL1 DV camcorder, the world's first DV camcorder to incorporate Canon's exclusive Interchangeable XL Lens Mount System. The new lens widens the videomakers' angle of horizontal view to more than 70°, compared with that of the standard 16X lens supplied with the XL1 which provides 47°. This represents an increase in angle of view of nearly 50%. This 3.4mm to 10.2 mm short zoom lens enables consumers and videographers to move from vast landscapes to close-ups with maximum flexibility. It is the equivalent of a 24mm to 72mm 35mm photography lens. And, in addition to it being a desirable angle among videographers, the lens is lightweight, portable and easy to use.

Features

By incorporating 18 of the highest quality, precision-crafted optical elements including low dispersion glasses used to compensate for chromatic aberration, the XL wide-angle 3X zoom lens achieves 600 TV line resolution. The result is extraordinarily sharp images compared to wide-angle lens converters.

Shooting Tip: Because this lens has a short focal length and large depth of field, foreign matter such as dust on the lens surface may be visible at minimum (F/16) aperture setting. Please ensure that the front and rear glass surfaces are kept clean. A lens cleaning cloth is packaged with the 3x lens to assist you in keeping the glass surfaces clean.
 

XLR microphone adaptor

The optional MA-100 Microphone Adapter/Shoulder Pad (with XLR connectors) allows you to use balanced-type microphones with the XL1. This unit also lets you attach a wireless microphone receiver plus it functions as a shoulder pad for advanced handling and control
